Shipbuilding Saturday 10/12, 10-4

How was the massive CSS Neuse constructed 155 years ago? Learn the answer to this question at our Shipbuilding Saturday program!

Visitors can experience ship building techniques, rope making, knot tying, learn about sailor life on an ironclad, and paint a wooden ironclad.

Also included will be a special program about NC Naval stores and their importance during the Civil War. Regular admission required.

Caswell's Citizen Soldiers (FREE) 11/16, 10-4

Come spend a day at the Governor Richard Caswell Memorial and learn how soldiers during the American Revolution were trained and lived in camp while on campaign. Learn the difference between the colonial professional soldier and the citizen militia.

Activities include:
- Military drill
- Spinning
- 18th century surgery

A Walk Through Christmas Past 12/6, 6-8pm

Experience Christmas in Lenoir County in 1861, 1862, 1864, and 1865 through a guided tour inside the museum. See what the holiday season was like in the field with the soldiers, on board ship with sailors, and on the home front. This is an Evening Theater ticketed program. Families will be able to make decorations in the lobby for a table top tree while they are waiting to be taken on tour. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 3-12 years. Tickets are timed and tours of approx. 20 people will begin every 15 minutes from 6pm to 8pm. Guided Christmas Tour lasts approximately ½ hour. Tickets can be purchased in advance or day of if tickets and times remain.

Victorian Open House (FREE DAY) 12/7, 10-4

Visit the CSS Neuse for FREE! Come and share the holiday spirit with staff and volunteers from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to learn about Victorian Christmas practices, and make a Christmas craft to take home and share with friends and family. Cookies and cider will be provided for all visitors. Admission and crafts are FREE and open to all ages.

Antebellum Ball 3/7/2020, 7-11pm

Enjoy an evening of dancing with The Huckleberry Brothers Band and heavy hors d'oeuvres as we celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center's grand opening.

Vintage attire will be admired, not required.

All proceeds go to the C.S.S. Neuse Gunboat Association, which is the C.S.S. Neuse State Historic Site's support group.
