CSS Neuse Five Year Anniversary Program March 7, 2020 9am-4pm

Calling all battlefield tour enthusiasts! The CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center will be hosting an anniversary program on March 7, 2020 to commemorate the museum being open for five years.

Join staff at the CSS Neuse for our five year anniversary of being open to the public at our downtown location. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the museum, enjoy two battlefield tours, and enjoy living history demonstrations at Harriett’s Chapel. Cost is $20.00 per person. Lunch will be at King’s Restaurant on your own. Pre-registration is required and limited to 30 participants. Contact Rachel at 252-526-9600 ext. 222 or rachel.kennedy@ncdcr.gov to register.

Antebellum Ball 3/7/2020, 7-11pm

Join the C.S.S. Neuse Gunboat Association in hosting their first Antebellum Ball fundraising event! Enjoy an evening of dancing and heavy hors d'oeuvres as they celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center's grand opening.

The Huckleberry Brothers band will be providing entertainment!

All proceeds go to the C.S.S. Neuse Gunboat Association, which is the C.S.S. Neuse State Historic Site's support group. Proceeds from this event will be used for future exhibits and programming at the site. Black tie, period clothing is optional.

“Reflected Glory: Letters to Anna” Dinner Theater April 4, 2020 6-8pm

Join us for an exciting dinner theater event to explore the love story of Anna Jackson and Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson. Over a catered dinner, Kelly Hinson, will perform as Anna Jackson in a one-woman play, “Reflected Glory: Letters to Anna.” The story is taken from Jackson’s factual accounts and will be performed in full mourning attire. Guests will learn how the couple met and married, their tragedies, and the heartache for Anna after Jackson’s death.

Following dinner and the play, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about medicine, disease and amputations during the Civil War, nineteenth century mourning practices, and the 18th NC- the unit responsible for accidentally shooting General Jackson.

This is an evening ticketed event. Pre-registration is required. Tickets are $15 per adult, $10 for children & Gunboat Association members. Doors will open at 5:30pm, to allow visitors time to tour the museum prior to dinner at 6:00pm. The program will begin at 6:15pm.

Female Spies in the Civil War Dinner Theater at the CSS Neuse August 8, 2020 6-8pm

Female spies dinner theater event will highlight the life of Confederate Spy Rose Greenhow and other female spies.

Back by popular demand!

Join us for our second annual women in espionage dinner theater program! You will not be disappointed by this program, which begins with dinner and the inspiring and tragic story of Rose O'Neal Greenhow and ends with spy activities which allow visitors to learn the unique stories of other females who spied for the north and south during the Civil War.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to complete an escape room activity by solving four clues that lead them to find a real Civil War Union spy (Elizabeth Van Lew). There are 4 clues they must solve to complete the activity, which requires using real strategies that the spy actually employed during the Civil War.This program is great for all ages.
